![]() Ultimately, Deponia was about Rufus, and Rufus alone. Yes, the End leaves a couple of loose threads (the future of Elysium & Deponia is pretty much the biggest, but there are a also smaller ones), but in the end they don't matter. I have to agree and disagree with you on that. Originally posted by TheEqulizar:Seriously though, if Daedalic released a comic book or short game taking place after the events of Goodbye Deponia (possibly taking place from the perspective of Goal, they hinted at this when Rufas asked what happened to Goal when he was gone), I would 100% buy it. That being said, it's pretty open-ended and there are quite a few loose-ends that I would like to see explained (Whatever happened to the kids in the sewer? How are all the Deponians? Do they ever learn the truth about his sacrifice? Does it change their opinion of him? etc.) but I am fairly satisfied with the way it ended regardless! Cheers to Daedalic for an awesome game. She cuts him loose on the council and walks outside and lets out a sigh while looking down on Deponia from Elysium possibly wondering if Rufus survived (He's as resilient as a cockroach) or just missing him. Goal and Cletus (dressed as Rufus) are in the elevator and the awkward exchange the two have hint that Goal knows that he's not really Rufus but she encourages him anyway for both Elysium and to respect Rufus' decision. He saved Goal, Deponia, and Elysium and even though he never made it to Elysium himself he's happy with his decision. ![]() ![]() Barry crashes into the satellite and Rufus breaks out laughing, satisfied with the result of his choice because ultimately he accomplished the majority of his biggest goals. Rufus falls and is met with his biggest fan, Barry, whom reaffirms his admiration by telling him that only Rufus could have made such a tough decision reminding Rufus that he really has changed and thought of someone else but himself. During this, Goal understands who the real Rufus is and just how much he has changed (She's spent a lot of time with him and has seen a part of him that nobody else had which lead to her falling for him, this is further reinforced when she defends him from the Deponians prior to launch and her confession of love during the Argus interrogation) and decides to respect his decision. Knowing that they are just going in circles, Rufus decides that his best option would be to let Cletus live (Argus would just try to take over so he is essentially picking the lesser of the two evils) and sacrifice himself so that most importantly Goal can escape in time. Each of them initially try to selfishly convince Goal to save them but the real Rufus realizes time is ticking and tells her to save herself (at least in my own choices). When Goal approaches the 3 prototypes at the end to try to find Rufus she is confused about who the real Rufus is and proceeds to question them all. This is my take and my own opinion on what happened which lead to a fairly satisfying ending for myself. It's interesting that there are so many speculations about what is really going through Rufus' head at the end and makes the choices that he does.
